Alfred Stanley Colton

Alfred Stanley Colton was born in Toronto. He was educated at the Ontario College of Art from 1940-42, then joined the RCAF. After World War II he moved to Vancouver, where he graduated from the art school in 1947.

He exhibited his work in the 1948 and 1949 Stanley Park in Pictures exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and in the B.C. Artists' exhibitions from 1946 to 1950.

In the late 1950s to early 1960s Colton edited Perception, the journal of the B.C. Teachers' Federation, and illustrated a number of the front covers for The B.C. Teacher.

He exhibited with the BCSFA in 1952, listed as an associate member.

The 1990 IMAGES AND OBJECTS VIII catalogue notes that he had a solo exhibition at the Surrey Art Gallery in 1987, and several pieces were purchased for their permanent collection. The artist was living in Langley in 1990.

Colton died June 7, 2012.
