R. Rolleston West (Roger Rolleston Pick West)

R. Rolleston West was born in London, England in 1891 (1894?). In 1911 he was noted as an engineering student. He exhibited artwork at Bonn-am-Rhein in Germany in 1913. He was in the British Expeditionary Force in World War One, receiving a D.S.O. for demolition work on a bridge. After the war he became Direcor of the Aerodynamic Research Laboratory at Hendon.

He married Barbara Morley-Horder in London in 1930. He then came to BC in 1930, where he exhibited artwork in the 1934 B.C. Artists exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Who's Who in Northwest Art notes that West was a painter in water colour and black and white; was a student at Bonn University, Germany; trained at the Vancouver School of Art and Federal Art School in Los Angeles; and was a student of Frederick Varley's. He was living at 3641 Cameron Avenue in Vancouver, B.C. in 1941. See also Barbara West, living at same address.

West was involved with Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles in 1938, and lived there from 1941 to 1948. Afterwards he moved to San Francisco, and died in Monterey in 1975.
