Harley Walter Blair Parker

Harley W. Parker was born in Fort William, Ontario. He was educated at the Ontario College of Art, and at Black Mountain College.

He exhibited work in the 1944 and 1945 B.C. Artists annuals, and in the 1944 and 1945 British Columbia At Work exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

He won a $50 award at the Second Annual BC at Work exhibition in 1945, sponsored by the Labour Arts Guild.

After the war he taught at the Ontario College of Art from 1947 to 1957, and was head of Design at the Royal Ontario Museum from 1957 to 1967. He shared a Chair at Fordham University with Marshall McLuhan in 1973, and was research associate at the University of Toronto in 1974. In 1977 he was living in Winlaw, and he died in Vancouver in 1992 at the age of 76, where he was living at 1655 Barclay Steet. He was survived by his wife Mary Gibson.
