July 15 1879 - December 31 1970

groups

Ernest Lamarque was born in Kent, England in 1879. He came to Canada in 1889, and moved to British Columbia in 1911. According to Langmann, in 1907 he was working in Prince Rupert, (which conflicts with information on the BCVS death certificate) and later worked for the City of Vancouver. He was commissioned as a B.C. Land Surveyor in 1915.

He exhibited work in the annual B.C. Artists exhibitions from 1932 to 1960, although not every year. He had a solo exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 1936.

He lived in Vancouver until his wife Winnifred Cope died in 1967, then moved to Oyama, BC, where he died in 1970 at the age of 91. His death certificate noted that he had retired in 1960.
