Mabel May was born in Westmount, Quebec in 1884, where she lived for the early years of her life. She moved to Vancouver in 1949 where she lived until her death in 1971.

She had two paintings in the 1932 All Canadian Exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. In 1939 she had a solo exhibition of oil paintings at the gallery.

May exhibited for many years with the Royal Canadian Academy of Art, from 1910 to 1952. Many references are available for May that are not listed in BC Artists.
