Captain Douglas Henry Newberry Russell

Capt. D.H.N. Russell was born in Hinton, St. Georges, Somerset, England, and came to Canada c1911. The 1913 W.A. Jeffries City directory for Kamloops lists him as a rancher, living 10 miles outside of city limits.

Russell married Cicely Frances Osborn in Vancouver on April 22 1913, his occupation was noted as engineer. He was 35, the bride was 24 years old. Russell was living in Kamloops, the bride in Vancouver.

On Sept. 16 1916 he signed his attestation papers to join the Canadian Over-Seas Expeditionary Force. He attested that he had served 10 years in the Royal Artillery, 14 months in the 102nd Regiment R.M.R. His "trade or calling" was given as "Gentleman." His residence was noted as Kamloops. He joined the 68th Overseas Depot Field Battery.

He exhibited in the May 1924 16th Annual Exhibition of the B.C. Society of Fine Arts, held at the Vancouver School Board offices on Hamilton Street.

He was a cartoonist for the Vancouver Province.

B.C. Vital Statistics on-line provides the information that he died in Saanich on June 15 1961 at the age of 82, occupation "Artist - cartoonist" (retired 1931).
