John (Jack) V. Long exhibited in the 1946 7th Annual Vancouver International Salon of Pictorial Photography exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. The artist was living in Vancouver.

In 1947 Long married Joy Zemal (q.v.), a Vancouver artist.

In later years Long worked for CBC and the National Film Board of Canada. In 1979 Long was Director of a short documentary film about Bill Reid (q.v.). He also did the cinematography for a 1975 short documentary titled David and Bert that was directed by Daryl Duke, with music by Paul Horn. In 1982 he did a short film on architect Arthur Erickson.
