Melvin (Mel) Kero

November 6 1925 - August 19 1998

Vancouver School of Art (Diploma 1949)


Melvin Kero was born in Sicamous. He graduated from the Vancouver School of Art in 1949. He married Pat Handford, who also graduated from the school that year.

He exhibited artwork in the B.C. Artists exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery from 1950 to 1952, and in 1957. The artist was living in Vancouver.

In 1954 Pat and Mel illustrated an instructional manual for the Vancouver School Board titled "Elementary School Arts & Crafts." The pamphlet, reprinted in 1964, notes that the original reproduction was done by Robert Reid (q.v.) and Gordon Smith (q.v.).

Kero was married to Eva Gulyar and residing in Vancouver when he died at Sechelt in 1998, his occupation noted as "Merchant."
