John H. Dyson was born in Folkestone, England. He exhibited work in the 1949 Stanley Park in Pictures exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery, and many years later in the last B.C. Artists exhibition at the gallery in 1968.

In 1977 the artist was living in Valemount, B.C. He died in Williams Lake in 1993 at the age of 83. He was married to Doris Douglas at the time, his occupation noted as "Artists - painter artists."
