Maurice Bentley was born in Ceylon, Saskatchewan. After arriving in BC he exhibited work at the Vancouver Art Gallery in the 1941 and the 1945 B.C. Artists annual exhibitions. The artist was living in White Rock.

Bentley died in White Rock in 1995 at the age of 72. He was married to Dorothy Elizabeth Reid, his occupation was noted as "land right-of-way property negotiator."
