The Vancouver Museum is currently situated on Kitsilano Point, it is a part of the Planetarium complex, known as the Centennial Museum since its move to this location in 1958.

The Museum was originally located in the public library at the corner of Hastings and Main. US tycoon Andrew Carnegie, towards the end of his career, donated $50,000.00 to every city in the world that would build a public library with the funds. Vancouver accepted the offer, and the cornerstone was laid in 1901. The building was essentially complete when it opened to the public in 1904. However, a wooden staircase to the top floor of the building was not constructed until the general contractor was paid what he was owed. The top floor was to be occupied by the Vancouver Museum, which opened the following year.
