Frederick Thursby was born in Cork County, Ireland. He married Muriel Parsons in Vancouver on January 10, 1915. Thursby was living at 622 East Pender Street at the time.

In 1932 Thursby was (probably) a signatory to an agreement to boycott the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa for their exhibition and purchase policies related to Canadian artists. He was noted as being a Vancouver artist.

F.P. Thursby exhibited in the 1945 British Columbia At Work exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Thursby retired in 1958 as a commercial artist, which he had spent all of his life employed as. He died in Vancouver in 1960 at the age of 70.
