A.K.R. Low was born in Scotland. He moved to Nanaimo in 1916, where he lived for the rest of his life. He was employed as a machinist, retiring in 1945 after 20 years spent in the occupation.

Low exhibited work at the Vancouver Art Gallery in the 1933 B.C. Artists Christmas exhibition.

He died in Nanaimo in 1957 at the age of 72, noted as being single. His nephew William Low of Nanaimo witnessed the death certificate.
