Myrtle Jackson was born in Gadsby, Alberta. She studied art under Alfred Crocker Leighton in Calgary at the Institute of Technology and Art, then moved to Vancouver in 1938, where she exhibited work at the Vancouver Art Gallery in two solo exhibitions.

She moved to Chicago in 1940 to study at the Illinois Institute of Technology. During World War Two she worked as a draftsperson supporting the war effort.

She was a successful commercial artist in Chicago, where she married fellow artist Fiore Mastri in 1945. She called herself Jacki or Jackie Mastri after that. The couple illustrated a number of books.

She lived in Chicage until 1972, when she moved back to Gadsby, Alberta.

"No. 306 - Myrtle Jackson
Miss Jackson, who hails from Alberta, had an exhibition in the Gallery in October 1938, when she showed some very charming and interesting studies in watercolour. She was a pupil of Mr. A.C. Leighton, R.B.A., of Calgary, and subsequently studied with Mr. H.G. Glyde (q.v.), with special emphasis on life drawing. The present exhibition will contain examples in watercolour, pastels and black and white."
