He moved to Nome, Alaska by 1907, where he advertised his services as a photographer and photoengraver. His work included views of life in and around Nome, mining activities, views of Eskimos, dog teams and races, and ships loading and unloading.
In 1910 he was again living in Vancouver, where he was employed by Bullen's Photo Company as a photographer.
The City Directory for 1911 lists Bell as an engraver, working for the Dominion Illustrating Company at 331 Seymour Street.
Bell began working for the Cleland-Dibble Engraving Co. as a photoengraver around 1914. He was exempted from service in World War One, and by 1918 he was listed as President of the Cleland-Dibble Engraving Company. In 1919 he became a partner and the firm's name was changed to Cleland-Bell.

In the early 1920s Bell had two motor yachts, the Cawarra and the Arrawac. In 1925 he was reported to be "living on the Arrawac with a companion." In March 1926 Bell apparently left Cleland-Bell, with Harry Kent becoming the new partner.

He later established Bell's Mink Ranch in New Westminster. In 1950 and 1951 he is listed as the "operator" of Hammond Furs in North Burnaby, although the City Directory does not list that as a business. His death certificates notes that he retired in 1949 after 30 years of employment as a "printer" and moved to Langley around 1962, where he died single. He was living at 8814 - 216th Street in Langley at the time.
| EDITOR'S NOTE: I decided to put together this biography file after receiving the email from Deborah T. Haynes. Creating a new file is fairly easy, but it encourages further research to see if the person is noted in other documents. I went through the City Directories from 1905 to 1955 (so far, some years not checked) and compiled the following information: |
