Capitol Theatre

The Capitol Theatre opened at 820 Granville Street in March 1921, with 2,500 seats. Artist Alfredo Dalfo apparently created, or helped to create, this original plasterwork for the theatre. In April 1976 he provided these images to the Vancouver Province for an article being written about the Orpheum Theatre restoration project, published as "Adding a touch of class" on May 5 1976. Dalfo worked on the original decorations for both theatres. These actual 8 x 10 inch black and white photographic prints were found by chance in April 2025 at The Paper Hound bookstore on Pender Street, 50 years after they were developed and printed, and 105 years after the photographs were taken!

Based on the size of the doorway in the second photograph, this plasterwork was easily 12 to 15 feet high and about ten feet wide.
