Painting by Jack Hambleton

This painting by Jack Hambleton shows the demolition of the former Hotel Vancouver in 1949. The hotel had been superceded by the "new" hotel on Georgia between Burrard and Hornby. It had been used to billet troops after the Second World War. The Vancouver Block in the background is still extent in 2024. There are two levels of offices immediately under the clocks, as a child I had to take violin lessons in one of them for two years. The studio was north-facing and had a fabulous view of the harbour and North Shore, but the lessons didn't go well.
