David Spencer Ltd. - The Arcade

The Arcade at Spencer's department store was a prominent feature of the building. The drawing of the Arcade above from Store Topics Issue 45 June 1928 was probably contributed by Buckley Studios. The photograph below was taken by Bullen. It is interesting to compare the actual size of the Arcade and display cases between the images.

There are stairs at the far end of the corridor, the drawing illustrates them fairly well. There is a sign over the window at the far end of the Arcade that reads "PIANOS RADIOS PHONOGRAPHS" with three pianos visible in the window. A drop curtain in the ceiling obscures the two upper windows beyond that are illustrated in the drawing.
