"Savary Haikus Deconstructed" by Gary Sim.

This is a photograph of a mixed media piece that I was working on a few years ago, and framed as shown for an exhibition at the West Vancouver Memorial Library. The piece was intended to be completed as a small artist book, with an Italian leather cover glued over boards, and handmade marbled paper by Galen Berry inside the covers, over which is glued selected photographic prints from a trip to Savary Island.

Three haikus are written on translucent drafting vellum, which have been painted to suit three more photos from Savary Island. Each vellum haiku is folded for the matching photo's insertion. A few more such assemblies, along with a title page of some sort, would have completed the book. In the meantime, it's like this. Pen & ink, liquid india ink brushpen on drafting vellum, 35mm photo prints.
